About The Photographer

The documentary photography of Mary Motley Kalergis chronicles the bonds that connect people, families, and communities.  Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, including The Smithsonian Institution, The Chrysler Museum of Art, The San Antonio Museum of Art, The Field Museum of Chicago, and the Diaframa Kodak Gallery in Milan, Italy.  Her published books include Love In Black & White (Dafina Books, Kensington Publishing Corp., 2002), Charlottesville Portrait (Howell Press, Zoo, 2000), Seen and Heard: Teenagers Talk About Their Lives (Stewart Tabori, & Chang, 1998),  With This Ring: A Portrait of Marriage (The Chrysler Museum of Art, 1997), Mother: A Collective Portrait (E.P. Dutton, 1987), Home of the Brave (E.P. Dutton, 1990), and Giving Birth (Harper & Row, 1983.)  

Photographs by Mary have appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world, including The New York Times, People, Time Magazine, Glamour and The Guardian (London).
